Spring Home Maintenance ChecklistWe offer this Spring Home Maintenance Checklist just in time for spring. Officially, spring starts on March 20th. In some climates, this may be the time you begin working outdoors and starting some gardening, landscaping and clean-up from winter damage. In other areas, March is a time of year that is still windy and cold. You may be experiencing snow and heavy rain. Either way, here is a general idea what needs to be done around the house this time of year.

Interior Home Maintenance

  1. Prepare for storms. This could include getting surge protectors to protect your electronics.
  2. Replace filters in your HVAC system and schedule your spring HVAC maintenance on your air conditioner.
  3. Clean air ducts if necessary.
  4. Clean and reseal grout if necessary
  5. Begin Spring Cleaning – Don’t forget under heavy appliances like refrigerators and dishwashers. Clean ceiling fans and change the rotation if needed.
  6. Check your sump pump to make sure it’s working properly
  7. Inspect basement and attic for leaks

Exterior Home Maintenance

  1. Look for signs of early pests. Remove nests and schedule lawn treatments if desired
  2. Examine the roof for leaks or signs of rotting wood, peeling paint or full gutters – Clean gutters as needed
  3. Take down storm windows and install screens
  4. Call Chimney Sweep for after winter maintenance
  5. Inspect light fixtures outdoors – clean, repair and replace as needed
  6. Make landscaping and gardening plans. Consider starting indoor plants
  7. Remove damaged plants and branches from yard.
  8. Remove old mulch and add organic matter or compost to your landscape beds
  9. Clean and maintain your lawn mower and garden equipment.
  10. Transplant dormant perennials and bulbs when ground thaws

Spring HVAC Maintenance

Make sure that you don’t have leaves, limbs or other debris around your HVAC equipment. If you notice lower branches around your outdoor components, this is a good time to cut the branches back before new growth appears.
