hvac systemWe thought it would be a good time to discuss how weather affects your HVAC system. Weather this time of year can be unpredictable at best. Easter came early, it’s the beginning of April and yet, we still could see a few more snow days. You can expect some high temperatures this week reaching the 70° mark and some lows around 35°. With so much fluctuation in the weather, we thought it might be a good time to discuss your AC and how it works with your furnace.

Forced Air Systems

Your furnace, or rather the blower in your furnace is what actually propels the air produced by your air conditioner through the duct system in your home. With out the motor in your furnace, the air conditioner is incapable of moving air through your ducts. This surprises many people who tend to forget about their furnace during warmer spells.

What This Means To You

First of all, if you haven’t scheduled your spring HVAC maintenance, now is a great time to do so. You need to make sure your AC is ready for that first hot day. (Even if that might not be until May!) You also need to make sure your furnace blower motor is in good condition and ready to work just as hard this summer as it did this winter.

Changing Furnace Filters

We hope you have kept up with changing your furnace filter all winter. But don’t think as warmer temperatures begin to replace the colder ones that you can forget your furnace filter altogether. Dirt and Debris will build up on and in your filter clogging the airflow. The filter is needed to protect the furnace. But a clean filter will allow more airflow and give you better circulation of air so that you stay more comfortable and your system doesn’t have to work as hard to keep the same temperature. When you keep a clean filter in place, your HVAC system will run more efficiently and last longer because it won’t be working so hard so often.

How Weather Affects Your HVAC System

Let’s face it, without changing weather conditions, we may not need an air conditioner or a furnace. One things for sure though, when living in Central Kentucky, you will always need both a furnace on the cold days and an air conditioner on the warmer ones. And while you may not think to much about one system when using the other, it’s a good idea to keep changing those furnace filters all year long. If you have questions about your heating system or cooling system, contact ADA Heating & Air in Central Kentucky and we will be happy to help you.
